Except for some custom made and therefore expensive concert flutes there have been no flutes for left-handed flutists on the market. VIENTO have responded to a number of enquiries and have developed the first flute especially made for left-handed flutists as a standard production item. First experiences show that these flutes are not only interesting for left-handed persons starting to learn the flute. A lot of advanced flutists develop problems with their back or suffer from neck or shoulder pain. Playing occasionally with a left-handed concert flute can relief such discomfort. The whole body is turned in the opposite direction which brings the muscles in balance again. Last not least left hand flutes are also interesting for flute teachers. If the teacher plays a left hand flute, then teacher and student face each other, i.e. everybody sees the fingers of his counterpart. Mistakes are immediately seen and corrected. Besides, teaching flute this way is much more fun for both sides.
The VIENTO FL 208 L flute, a left-handed version, is technically and from its sound characteristics equivalent to the FL 200 models. The L-versions have mirrored mechanics, lip plate and tone holes, which allows left-handers to play the flute in a way and posture they feel most comfortable with.
